Excellence in Coaching Players to Learn the Game

Hello my name is Danny Mena, and I am the Owner and Trainer at Alamo Soccer Academy Inc.

We are a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting youth soccer development.

As a soccer coach, I have had the privilege of guiding teams through both successful seasons and those that faced challenges. I have been fortunate to coach teams that reached the playoffs and even secured a state title.

The inspiration for establishing Alamo Soccer Academy stemmed from a desire to teach the game in a unique manner. By employing diverse methodologies, the academy seeks to enhance players' understanding and application of the sport. Many players often struggle with knowing when and where to play the ball, as well as how to make effective runs. While numerous coaches advocate for the belief that the game itself should serve as the primary teacher, we contend that relying solely on the game is insufficient for comprehensive player development. We take pride in fostering an environment where players learn to ask questions as a pathway to continuous improvement.

Youth players, aged 4 to 18, have an inherent desire to engage in the game, apply their skills, and take risks. At Alamo Soccer Academy, we view failure not as an endpoint but as a stepping stone for growth. We actively encourage players to make mistakes, provided they are new, as this fosters learning. We strive for excellence and maintain high standards in pursuit of our goals, but it is paramount that no player feels discouraged from participating in the game.

Our commitment lies in cultivating a supportive learning environment that facilitates steady progression at a pace where players can confidently explore and be rewarded for applying what they have learned. Ultimately, our goal is to instill a love for the game in all players, ensuring that Alamo Soccer Academy is the ideal soccer club to help them achieve success, one training session at a time.

Our Values

Our Mission

Our objective is to assist players in discovering and achieving their soccer goals. We accomplish this by adhering to our comprehensive curriculum, which ensures that players do not overlook the essential steps required for proficiency in their training. If a player needs to revisit a skill move or recreate a specific scenario to gain a clearer understanding of the technique, we will gladly repeat the exercise until they can successfully perform the skill until it meets the necessary standards to enable the player to succeed in the game.

Throughout my 30 years of coaching, I take great pride in having never received a yellow card in any of my games. Upholding my values and consistently reminding myself of them allows me to maintain a higher standard on the sidelines. The following values are what we aim to share and instill in our players:

Respect

  • For themselves

  • For their teammates

  • For the coach

  • For the opponent

  • For the referee

Integrity

  • Always assist the opposing team after a hard tackle.

Accountability

  • Acknowledge mistakes and work towards rectifying them.

Courage

  • Embrace risks, accept failures, and seek new paths to achieve goals.

Appreciation

  • Cultivate gratitude for the opportunity to play the game.
